Please note that the price of the knife will increase to $75 including shipping in the US on October 1, 2016.
December 21, 2015 I AM SOLD OUT OF OYSTER KNIVES! Endorsed by the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and, today, by the New York Times, the oyster knife I import from Holland has been wildly successful. More are on their way, but US Customs at this time of year is notoriously slow.
Here’s the Post’s blurb (at left), declaring it “the best they’ve encountered.”
From the L.A. Times:
Oyster knife
For the oyster lover who has everything — the ultimate opener. This shiny metal oyster knife made in Solingen, Germany, feels just right in your hand and has a “fin” on the handle to give you the torque you need to open even the toughest oysters. It’s designed by Dutch chef and champion oyster shucker Marcel Schouwenaar and is imported by celebrated Lowcountry cook John Martin Taylor of Hoppin’ John’s. You can certainly find cheaper shucking knives, but if you really, really love oysters, you can bet this thing will come in handy. $70. www.hoppinjohns.com
And online in The New York Times in Florence Fabricant’s “FRONT BURNER” column today (which will appear in the print edition on Wednesday), the following:
To Pry: No Oyster Stands a Chance
This sturdy one-piece oyster knife was designed by Marcel Schouwenaar, a champion Dutch shucker. Sleek and effective, even for clams, it comes in a metal box and is made of surgical stainless steel in Solingen, Germany, a city known for its knife blades: Oyster Knife, $70, including shipping in the United States, Hoppin’ John’s, 800-828-4412, hoppinjohns.com.
The knife really is the best one I’ve ever used, and it’s been lauded as well by Rowan Jacobsen, the oyster expert, on his OysterGuide site.
I’ll let y’all know when the new shipment arrives. I hope you all have a wonderful, oyster-filled holiday season.
